Family Matinee: Tiffany Austin
SFJAZZ is proud to celebrate the centennial of one of the greatest voices in jazz and First Lady of Song, Ella Fitzgerald! Born in 1917, Ella’s powerful tone, impeccable phrasing and uncanny scatting made her one of the most beloved vocalists in American music history. Since her seminal days with the Chick Webb Orchestra before launching her stunning solo career, Lady Ella immortalized jazz and popular song like no one else. From her exquisite rendition of “A-Tisket, A-Tasket” to her many collaborations with jazz giants, Fitzgerald was among the heralded jazz singers to canonize the Great American Songbook and successfully cross over to the non-jazz audience. For our Family Matinee in honor of Women’s History Month, Bay Area soulful songstress Tiffany Austin celebrates the legacy of one of the most iconic figures in American music.
